East Gippsland Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2008 - 2013

East Gippsland Shire Council adopted the East Gippsland Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2008-2013 at its Ordinary Council Meeting on 7 October 2008.

Sustainability Accord

 

Sustainability Accord is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Victorian Councils to foster consistent development of environment and sustainability policies and programs.


East Gippsland Shire Council provided formal commitment to the Accord via a letter to the minister for
Environment in April 2006 and was the first Gippsland Council to commit to the Accord.

 

A Local Environmental Sustainability Priority Statement was developed in June 2007.

Sustainability Fund

 

Sustainability Fund is designed to support projects that foster sustainable resource use and have economic and social benefits for Victorians.


East Gippsland Shire Council was successful in Round Two by receiving funding to develop an environmental strategy and employ a Sustainability Officer for a 12 month period.

East Gippsland Shire Council Environmental Sustainability Advisory Board
East Gippsland Shire Council Environmental Sustainability Advisory Board

In March 2008 the East Gippsland Shire Council called for expressions of interest from community members to be appointed to the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Board.

The Advisory Board acts as a consultative mechanism for Council and the community; provides recommendations on the best way for Council to approach Environmental Sustainability in East Gippsland; provides recommendations on matters that fall within the Board's Terms of Reference, and is currently overseeing the development of an Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
